I got a phone call early this morning from the sailing company to advise me that (as I thought) my sailing trip that morning wouldn’t be happening due to lack of interest in the off season. Now, as I mentioned yesterday, I didn’t mind that this had happened, but I did mind that nobody told me this would even be a possibility - it’s unfair.

I was anticipating this sequence of events so I decided to go for a trail walk after having a rather chill morning. I went for the Paihia School Road Track which was supposed to take around 40 minutes each way, but in actuality, took me that time for the whole thing. I’m not a very confident or fast walker, but it was a relatively easy trail which I was extremely happy to find out. There was another track a little way out that would take about 3 hours to see a waterfall, but I didn’t fancy walking for that long by myself, with a small bottle of water and one cereal bar for company.

The view from the lookout was stunning; it looked out over Russell and the islands around that area - it definitely made the walk worth it. It wasn’t ridiculously high up but it still made me feel as though I was such a tiny being in such a large world. Seeing views like that always humbles me, and I always find myself more relaxed in those situations, especially if I’m by myself.

It was nice to get out of the hostel and have some peace and quiet me time - I even decided to go out without my headphones so it was a great time to reflect and think about everything going on. I don’t have complete quiet often and it was a great change and something that I’m definitely thinking about making a regular event.
