Day 2: Why Am I So Reliant On The Internet? [07/10/16]

Well today was kind of a fail and kind of not, I guess it depends on which way you look at it - personally, I feel as though today could have gone a lot better than it did.

The day started with good intentions; Lena and I decided to explore the city randomly, and maybe that’s where we went wrong as we had no idea where to go - we found ourselves walking around aimlessly and never actually ending up anywhere in particular. We wanted to check out the Sky Tower (which reminded me of Melbourne’s Eureka Skydeck) but we didn’t want to pay $28 to see a gloomy view of the city when, at the time, it was grey and rainy.

The whole day was sporadically rainy that it did, in fact, remind me a little bit of Melbourne; Auckland just couldn’t make up it’s mind as to whether it wanted to be hot, cold, sunny or rainy. It’s cold here, oh so cold, and it’s making me want to buy a set of gloves, hat and scarf. Will the rest of my trip warrant me buying these things now, despite the fact that I can’t even find any of these in the first place to make this decision?

Today was a day of can’t be bothered’s, too cold’s, and I don’t know what to do’s, which resulted in me going to and from my hostel in a perpetual state of boredom, tiredness, and wanting to do things. I did, however, find a library with 1GB per day worth of free internet to use which is literally just 5 minutes down the road from me, which I guess is a positive as such. Since when did finding free internet become such a thrill?

I’ve used over half of my allotted travel credit in just over a day, which in actual fact, is pretty disgusting. When did I become so dependant on the internet? Why can’t I go outside and do things, find things and meet new people? It’s a scary world we live in, but we still live in it nonetheless!

Tomorrow I will be meeting Polly, and hopefully ReneĆ©, to explore the city together. They are from this part of the world and can probably do a better job of showing me around than anyone can. I did think today, that maybe I should have started my Kiwi Experience sooner, but then I would never have met up with my kiwi friends - it’s all swings and roundabouts, but let’s hope for a better day tomorrow!
