I’ve done a fair few bus journeys in Australia on the Greyhound especially and they can get pretty boring unless you have something to do. Here’s a few things to keep you occupied:

Music
Get your headphones out and listen to some of your favourite music. Nobody likes that obnoxious person on the bus who blares out their shitty music for everyone to hear on their speakers. Even create a playlist to listen to before you leave so you’re all prepared for the journey ahead. I’m a big lover of Spotify premium which is Spotify’s paid service, this allows you to create offline playlists rather than having to connect to the internet. It’s honestly the best £10(ish) that I still spend back home.

Reading
There’s no better excuse to get your reading on when you’re on a long bus journey. There’s plenty of time to get into a good book and unless you get travel sickness from reading its a good thing to pass the time quickly. This obviously also applies to magazines, newspapers, blogs, etc - whatever floats your boat.

Films
If you have a tablet or a laptop, get some movies on there and make sure that your device is charged to the max before you depart so you have enough battery to last you. Sometimes buses play films on TVs as well depending on what services you go with and also sometimes they have USB slots so you can keep your electronics topped up all journey.

Sorting Out Photos
This is as good an excuse as any to go through all the photos you have taken thus far on your phone or your camera. You’ve plenty of time to delete what needs to go, to edit (if that’s what you’re into) or to even upload them if you have enough data or there’s free wifi on the bus, which sometimes there is.

Sleep
A pretty obvious one, but if you’re recovering from an almighty hangover or are just plain tired if your bus is an overnight one this is one of the simplest things to pass the time. Some people have trouble sleeping in motion but even just closing your eyes is a good time to relax and think about things.

Have you got any other tips to keeping yourself occupied on long journeys - bus or otherwise?
